Web Development Process

Web Development Process

17 December, 2021

We often get asked by clients about what to expect when creating a new website with Wappzo. This is the basic outline of the process that we follow.

Discovery

The first step to any project is for us to understand the true business objectives. We help our clients to take a step back and look at the business with fresh eyes or from a different direction.

Conversations frequently begin with a pain point for the company, be it outdated design, lack of sales or lack of functionality, and develop into an in-depth conversation about what the business goals are and the role a new website should play.

By identifying the true business goals, we can create success measures to ensure that the website gives a clear ROI and supports the long term objectives.

From this, we provide a scope of works and a proposal for the client.

The client typically pays for the discovery session if they do not already have a clear scope of works to supply.

Planning

Once the client has reviewed and approved our proposal, we conduct a series of careful planning sessions.

These are comprised of a digital producer, project manager, design lead and lead web developer. The client is often brought into these sessions to assist with the planning.

Stage 1 - Mock up

The first deliverable to a client is a mock-up of the site. This is in the form or a low-fidelity proof-of-concept followed by a high-fidelity design of a sample of pages.

We will also create the design elements required for the project such as artwork, logos, banners and stock images. In order to make a great website, our web designers use wireframing tools to analyze the layout, design, and functionality with real content.

We use multiple design revisions at this stage to get the right design and functionality before proceeding to development.

Stage 2 – Development

Using the approved design, we begin the process of building the website.

This can be a quick process for smaller sites, or take a longer time for sites with more page types, or templates, to create.

Once the main page templates are created, any custom functionality is added.

We provide our clients access to a development site where they can test and give feedback on each stage of the build.

Stage 3 – Quality Assurance

We create website audit reports, to avoid any site problems and to make sure that your website is stable and efficient.

We also conduct complimentary spell checks for the website’s content, checking for correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. This ensures that all content is easily read by users and major search engines alike.

Next is browser compatibility, page speed testing and load time balancing. Following this we have a lengthy developer, designer, and project manager QA (Quality Assurance) in order to ensure we deliver the highest standard product.

Stage 4 – Client Review

Once the website has passed our stringent QA, it’s time to present the brand new site to our client.

The client tests the full site and, if approved, we agree on a date for the site to go live.

Stage 5 – Launch

It’s time to take the website live! We switch on the new website and monitor it closely for any teething issues that might occur. We can also provide assistance with an email marketing or social media campaign promoting the website launch.
